Sunshine Tour 2022 Week 2
Monday started with another long vet’s visit for Askeaton. Finally isolating her lameness to the foot, and she was considerably improved from Sunday. So she was prescribed a week of walking. The others had hand walks and massages. April and I hacked out on Tuesday and Wednesday and then got back to serious work on Thursday with a jump round the clear round on grass with Arietta and Khalissy. The grass going here is superb and the horses jumped so well off it. It reminded me that this actually fun, and how lucky I am to be here.
On Friday Arietta stepped up to jump her first 1.30 which she did very well for two minor mistakes, the second fence where I just had to open her up for the distance and the lady fence where she was a bit tired. Khalissy stepped up to 1.20 and was a bit tense but still jumped well.
On Saturday Arietta jumped the 1.30 again. We had a misunderstanding at the 2nd fence before jumping a lovely clear round, and Khalissy jumped well again.
On Sunday I jumped both horses in the 1.20. A good decision as the 1* Grand Prix was a fill up 1.35 and technical. And Arietta definitely needed a smaller round. Khalissy jumped another nice round, just touching the first fence.
All the horses have passed the trot up today so let’s hope the weather perks up and we have a good weekend of jumping. So far this week has been unrelentingly cold and wet.
